Full Description
May 2018. Desk-based Assessment.
Environmental Impact Assessment of the potential impacts of the proposed Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm on the historic environment. This study incorporated the results of an initial walkover survey and the first phases of geophysical survey.
See relevant chapter of Environmental Statement and associated appendices for further detail (S1).
P. Watkins (HES), 24 October 2022.
November 2021-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (Area 605).
This survey identified numerous short linear anomalies, the majority of which are thought to be of probable natural origin (representing periglacial features). A small number of somewhat straighter, more regular anomalies are though regarded as being of undetermined origin and therefore potentially indicative of archaeologically-significant remains. These include a cluster of adjacent north-east to south-west and north-west to south-east aligned anomalies at c. TG 1046 4044.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 24 October 2022.
February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (P3TT09; Trenches 1064-1073).
The ten trenches excavated at this location revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. Although the trenches were fairly widely spaced it appears that one coincided with the cluster of linear geophysical anomalies deemed most likely to represent archaeological remains.
No finds were recovered.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 24 October 2022.
