Full Description
May 2018. Desk-based Assessment.
Environmental Impact Assessment of the potential impacts of the proposed Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm on the historic environment. This study incorporated the results of an initial walkover survey and the first phases of geophysical survey.
See relevant chapter of Environmental Statement and associated appendices for further detail (S1).

November 2021-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (Area 902).
This survey identified nothing of definite archaeological interest. The more notable responses included a curvi-linear ring ditch-like anomaly at the eastern end of the site that encircled a number of reasonably strong discrete anomalies. These are though regarded as being of undetermined origin and don't necessarily represent archaeologically-significant remains.
Areas of magnetic disturbance and numerous discrete bipolar anomalies at the eastern end of the site was probably caused by ferrous material on or near the surface (most likely modern debris).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (P2TT12; Trenches 177-183).
The seven trenches excavated at this location revealed only two north-to-south aligned ditches, both of which correspond with former field boundaries depicted on the Bodham tithe map of 1840 (S2). Finds recovered from these features included a residual Roman pottery sherd, a post-medieval pottery sherd and fragments of medieval/post-medieval ceramic building material.
There was no evidence for sub-surface associated with the cluster of geophysical anomalies identified at the eastern end of the site by the preceding survey.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
