Full Description
May 2018. Desk-based Assessment.
Environmental Impact Assessment of the potential impacts of the proposed Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm on the historic environment. This study incorporated the results of an initial walkover survey and the first phases of geophysical survey.
See relevant chapter of Environmental Statement and associated appendices for further detail (S1).
P. Watkins (HES), 16 April 2025.
November 2021-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (Area 42).
This survey identified a north-east to south-west aligned anomaly that corresponds with a former field boundary depicted on the Attlebridge tithe map (S2). Two similarly-aligned but more fragmentary linear anomalies to the south are regarded as being of undetermined origin but may potentially represent archaeologically-significant remains.
Scattered discrete dipolar anomalies and various other areas of magnetic disturbance were probable caused by ferrous material on or near the surface (most likely modern debris).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (P2TT52; Trenches 560-565).
The six trenches excavated at this location revealed only two undated ditches, one aligned north-east to south-west and the other north-north-east to south-south-west. The former corresponds with one of the potentially archaeologically-significant linear anomalies identified by the preceding geophysical survey. None of the excavated trenches coincided with the former field boundary shown on 19th-century maps.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
