Full Description
May 2018. Desk-based Assessment.
Environmental Impact Assessment of the potential impacts of the proposed Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm on the historic environment. This study incorporated the results of an initial walkover survey and the first phases of geophysical survey.
See relevant chapter of Environmental Statement and associated appendices for further detail (S1).
P. Watkins (HES), 18 July 2023.
November 2021-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (Area 55).
This survey identified no potentially archaeologically-significant responses. Although a number of linear anomalies were recorded all were likely to be the result of recent agricultural activity. Other, more amorphous anomalies were likely natural in origin.
There was therefore no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with a single linear cropmark that fell within the area examined (part of a dispersed group of potentially Roman remains recorded as NHER 53628).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 18 July 2023.
February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (P2TT64; Trenches 629‐634).
The six trenches excavated revealed three ditches at the northern end of the site and a number of scattered pits, none of which produced any conclusive dating evidence.
The ditches included a pair of adjacent west-north-west to east-south-east features, one of which contained a single Late Saxon pottery sherd.
The pits all appear to have been fairly unremarkable, with finds limited to a flint flake of probable Mesolithic/Early Neolithic date.
There was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with the single linear cropmark that coincided with the excavated trenches (part of the dispersed group of potentially Roman remains recorded as NHER 53628).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 18 July 2023.
