May 2018. Desk-based Assessment.
Environmental Impact Assessment of the potential impacts of the proposed Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm on the historic environment. This study incorporated the results of an initial walkover survey and the first phases of geophysical survey.
See relevant chapter of Environmental Statement and associated appendices for further detail (S1).
P. Watkins (HES), 18 July 2023.

November 2021-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (Area 5601).
This survey of the eastern half of the site revealed nothing of definite archaeological interest. The only response of note is a short curvilinear anomaly of uncertain origin. This may represent an infilled ditch but a natural origin is probably more likely.
A broad band of magnetic disturbance was almost certainly the result of variations in the underlying geology.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 18 July 2023.

February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (P2TT66; Trenches 642-645).
The four trenches excavated revealed only a single, undated pit with a dark blueish grey fill that contained a number of large burnt flints. A sample taken from this deposit was found to contain charcoal fragments and a single charred cereal grain.
A colluvial layer was recorded in the southern half of the site, which was shown to be up to 0.35m deep. A similar deposit was noted at the northern end of the site to the south (NHER 66337).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 18 July 2023.
