Summary

Trial trenching at this location in 2022 revealed a number of features including a pair of pits, a post-hole, a possible stake-hole and a single ditch, none of which produced any dating evidence. The ditch was though possibly associated with a former field boundary that once formed part of the Ketteringham/Hethersett parish boundary.

Map

February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (P3TT39; Trenches 1237-1248).
The seven trenches excavated at this location revealed a number of scattered undated features, all of which lay in the southern half of the site. These included a ditch, a pair of intercutting pits, a post-hole and a possible stake-hole.
The ditch was aligned north-north-west to south-south-east and was most likely of medieval to post-medieval date, lying very close to where a similarly-aligned former boundary is depicted on 19th century maps (which previously formed part of the Ketteringham/Hethersett parish boundary).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
