Summary

Limited trial trenching at this site in 2021 recorded a single ditch of uncertain date. Although a Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age pottery sherd was recovered from this feature, its alignment was identical to that of a former field boundary shown nearby on a 19th-century map.

Map

April-May 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Anglian Water Norwich to Wymondham water pipeline (Trenches 15-17).
The three trenches excavated at this location revealed only a single, north-west to south-east aligned ditch. A Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age pottery was recovered from this feature along with a fragment of animal bone, although the pottery was most likely residual as the aligned of this ditche was identical to that of a former boundary shown immediately to the south on the Great Melton Tithe map (S1).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
