Full Description
October-November 2020. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Anglian Water Norwich to Wymondham water pipeline (Area 27).
This survey identified four linear anomalies in the western half of the site, three of which were aligned roughly east-to-west, with the forth, northernmost response aligned east-north-east to west-south-west. The former probably related to a field boundary shown on the Wymondham Tithe map (S1) and a trackway shown immediately to the south on the Ordnance Survey First Edition map (S2). The single east-north-east to west-south-west aligned feature may though represent an earlier field boundary.
A north-to-south aligned linear anomaly at the eastern edge of the site running parallel with the adjacent Barnham Broom Road also probably represents an infilled ditch, although this is most likely of relatively recent date.
Several other, more irregular linear anomalies are regarded as being of undetermined origin, while scattered dipolar 'spikes' and areas of magnetic disturbance at the southern edge of the field were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface – most likely modern debris.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

April-May 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Anglian Water Norwich to Wymondham water pipeline (Trench 60).
The single trench excavated at this location was placed to coincide with several of the linear geophysical anomalies recorded in the western half of the site. This revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
