Map

October-November 2020. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Anglian Water Norwich to Wymondham water pipeline (Area 34).
This survey identified little of potential archaeological interest. The most notable response is a strong east-to-west aligned linear anomaly at the southern end of the site that potentially represents an infilled ditch.
Numerous amorphous anomalies at the northern end of the site are all of probable natural origin.
Scattered discrete dipolar anomalies and areas of magnetic disturbance at the margins of the surveyed areas were probably caused by ferrous material on or near the ground surface (most likely modern debris).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

April-May 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Anglian Water Norwich to Wymondham water pipeline (Trenches 71-73).
One of the three trenches excavated at this location revealed an east-to-west aligned ditch that corresponded with the linear anomaly identified by the preceding geophysical survey. This was found to contain a small assemblage of Roman pottery and several Roman tile fragments. No other features were recorded.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 13 May 2025.
