NHER 66434 (Monument record) - Post-medieval/modern pits

Excavation on route of Anglian Water Overstrand to Mundesley pipeline. This section of the pipeline easement was subject to full excavation due to its proximity to a number of potentially archaeologically-significant cropmarks, including a possible ring-ditch (NHER 56098).
Two pits and a probable tree-throw hollow were the mostly notable of the features uncovered, although these all appeared to be of relatively recent. Two produced single sherds of 19th-/20th-century pottery.
A shallow north-east to south-west aligned linear feature at the north-western end of the site was interpreted as the probable remains of a hedgerow. This appears to have coincided with the line of the Northrepps/Sidestrand parish boundary (which has followed this line since at least the mid 19th century). A nearby, similarly-aligned linear feature was thought to be some form of palaeochannel.
