Full Description
March-April 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Anglian Water Grantham to Bexwell pipeline (Areas 210 and 211).
This survey identified no responses of obvious archaeological significance, although it did record two groups of linear and curvilinear anomalies of uncertain origin; one at TF 6089 0456 and the other at TF 6073 0450. The former includes a 13m diameter circular anomaly that may represent the remains of a ring-ditch, although it is partial, discontinuous and close to several similar anomalies that are of probable natural origin. The second group of linear anomalies is also fragmentary and fairly irregular.
With the exception of two probable field boundary ditches (both adjacent to extant drains) the remaining anomalies recorded were all deemed to be of likely natural origin.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.

November 2021-March 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on route of Anglian Water Grantham to Bexwell pipeline (Area 12; Trenches 52-54)
The three trenches excavated at this location (one of which targeted the curvilinear anomaly identified by the geophysical survey) revealed no archaeologically significant features or deposits. No finds were recovered.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
