September 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Anglian Water Bexwell to Bury St Edmunds pipeline (Trenches 67-70).
The four trenches excavated at this location revealed a number of linear and discrete features, although the significant of these remains is probably fairly limited.
A pair of adjacent west-north-west to east-south-east and north-north-east to south-south-west aligned ditches were recorded in the westernmost trench. These were undated, although their alignments suggest they were most likely post-medieval.
A line of four pits of similar size was exposed in the easternmost trench. These produced no finds were also probably of relatively recent date, their loose, dark peaty and silty fills containing fragments of charcoal and wood. A similar feature was recorded in a trench to the west.
