Summary

Trial trenching at this site in 2021 revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. One of the excavated trenches had been positioned to target a possible ploughed-out boundary bank visible on lidar data (one of two such possible features recorded as NHER 66463) but no associated remains were identified.

Evaluation of site on proposed route of Anglian Water Bexwell to Bury St Edmunds pipeline (Trenches 2-5).
Four trenches were excavated, one of which was positioned to investigate a possible ploughed out medieval or post-medieval boundary bank visible on visualised lidar data (one of two possible banks recorded as NHER 66463). No features or deposits associated with this possible bank were identified. The other trenches also revealed no archaeologically-significant remains.
A single unstratified Roman pottery sherd was the only find recovered.
