NHER 66471 (Monument record) - ?Post-medieval timber-lined feature

October 2020-March 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Anglian Water Bexwell to Bury St Edmunds pipeline (Area 22).
This survey identified no potentially archaeologically-significant responses.
Although a cluster of amorphous discrete anomalies were recorded in the central part of the site these are all thought to be of natural origin.
A concentration of dipolar anomalies at the southern edge of the field are likely to have been caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris).

September 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Anglian Water Bexwell to Bury St Edmunds pipeline (Trenches 85-87).
A large timber-lined feature was partially exposed in the second of the three trenches excavated at this location. This feature was too waterlogged to be properly excavated, but the condition of the timber suggested it was probably of relatively recent date.
No finds were recovered.
