Map

A probable sewage treatment works is visible at this location on aerial photographs taken in 1946. This had almost certainly been constructed to serve the various accommodation areas and other satellite sites that lay to the south of Downham Market airfield (NHER 2455). It appears on an Ordnance Survey Six-inch map published in 1952 (S1), marked as 'Filter Bed (Downham Market UDC)'. At some point in the latter half of the 20th century it was entirely demolished, with the site reverting to arable land. Recent aerial imagery provides no evidence for surviving remains at this location.
See NHER 65670 for details of another sewage works associated with the World War Two airfield, which lay approximately 1.5km to the south-west, at TF 6203 0266.
