Map

October-November 2022. Trial Trenching.
Archaeological evaluation undertaken ahead of proposed reordering of the Abbey Estate (Trenches 1 and 2).
The two trenches excavated at this location exposed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits.
The southernmost trench revealed clear evidence for recent truncation, with various modern make-up layers lying directly above the natural deposits. This disturbance was though localised, as within the trench to the north a relatively undisturbed subsoil lay beneath the thin topsoil.
No finds were recovered.
See report (S1) for further details.
