Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2020/2021 revealed nothing of potential archaeological interest. Subsequent limited trial trenching in 2022 did though record two ditches, one of which coincided with a former field boundary depicted on 19th-century maps.

Map

November 2020-March 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Norwich Western Link (Area 4).
This survey revealed nothing of potential archaeological interest. Although a number of linear and amorphous anomalies were recorded these are all thought to be of natural origin. An area of magnetic disturbance at the western edge of the site and scattered dipolar 'spikes' were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface – most likely modern debris.
See report (S1) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 13 June 2026.

May-July 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Norwich Western Link (Field TT23; Trenches 10 and 11).
The two trenches excavated each revealed a single ditch; one aligned north-north-east to south-south-west and the other west-north-west to east-south-east. Neither produced any dating evidence but the former can be seen to coincide with a former field boundary depicted on the Attlebridge Tithe map (S2).
See report (S3) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 13 June 2026.
