Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2020/2021 identified a number of linear anomalies, the most notable of which are a group of three responses that potentially represent ditches bounding a former trackway and an associated field boundary ditch. The remaining linear anomalies are all much more irregular and regarded as being of undetermined origin.

November 2020-March 2021. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Norwich Western Link (Area 5).
This survey identified a number of linear anomalies, although these are all regarded as being of undetermined origin – the majority being fragmentary and/or irregular. Two parallel north-north-west to south-south-east aligned responses in the western part of the site may though represent ditches bounding a former trackway, while a perpendicular linear anomaly extending to the east may represent an associated field boundary.
The majority of the discrete anomalies recorded are thought to be natural in origin, being most likely the result of variations in the underlying geology.
There was no evidence for surviving subsurface remains associated with a linear cropmark visible on aerial photographs in the south-east corner of the site (part of a relatively extensive group of undated ditch recorded as NHER 50605).
See report (S1) for further details.
