Map

February-March 2013. Watching Brief.
Maintained during installation of new water main.
No archaeologically-significant remains were noted in this section of the narrow pipe trench excavated.
The small number of unstratified finds recovered at this location include a prehistoric retouched flint flake; Late Saxon, medieval, post-medieval and post-medieval/modern pottery sherds; a fragment of medieval worked stone; two undatable iron nails and several fragments of animal bone.
The worked stone is a roughly rectangular piece of Weldon limestone with only two finished edges and remnants of tooling on both surfaces. It is most likely a small ashlar block and had probably come from West Acre Priority (NHER 3881).
