Full Description
In March 2021 disarticulated human remains were discovered along the margin of a nearby field, at approximately TF 9175 3532. These bones (which represented the remains of multiple individuals) were found to be within material that had been dumped relatively recently to form two banks along the field boundary. It has been plausibly suggested [1] that these dumped deposits represent material removed from this site during the construction of a sunken tennis court between 2015 and 2017. If this was the case the burials disturbed were almost certainly associated with the nearby church of All Saints (NHER 12244), indicating that the churchyard of this church (or a precursor) originally extended into this area. The presence of medieval to post-medieval ceramic building material and flint nodules within the dumped spoil suggests that structural remains of some kind had potentially also been disturbed.
See report (S1) and NHER 66642 for further details.
