Map

November 2014. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site.
This survey identified three adjoining linear anomalies in the northern field, two aligned north-north-east to west-south-west and one aligned west-north to south-east. These potentially represent infilled ditches that had once formed the eastern and southern sides of two adjacent fields or enclosures.
A west-north-west to east-south-east aligned linear anomaly at the northern end of the southern field also probably represented an infilled ditch, which had possibly been associated with the features to the north.
The only other anomaly of note is a north-to-south aligned linear anomaly that corresponds with a former field boundary shown on early 20th-century Ordnance Survey maps.
Although numerous discrete areas of magnetic disturbance were recorded these are most thought to represent changes in the underlying geology. Scattered dipolar anomalies were probably caused by ferrous material on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris).
There was no evidence for sub-surface remains associated with a previously recorded curvilinear cropmark in the southern field.

January 2015. Desk-based Assessment.
Assessment of archaeological implications of proposed residential development.
