Summary

Trial trenching at this site in 2016 recorded only a single feature - a very shallow possible ditch running parallel to the adjacent road. Dating evidence was limited to a single small, potentially intrusive pottery sherd of 19th- to 20th-century date. A small number of unstratified medieval and post-medieval/modern pottery sherds were also recovered from the overlying subsoil.

Map

August 2016. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The three trenches excavated revealed only a single feature – a shallow east-north-east to west-south-west aligned possible ditch at the western edge of the site. This contained a single piece of post-medieval/modern pottery, although it is suggested this small sherd could well be residual.
Several sherds of medieval and post-medieval/modern pottery were recovered from the reasonably deep subsoil overlying this feature.
