Map

June 2019. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The four trenches excavated revealed only a single, north-east to south-west aligned ditch. This feature was encountered in the two easternmost trenches and produced no dating evidence (although its alignment was clearly significantly different from that of the surrounding boundaries). A sample taken from its fill was found to contain a small number of poorly preserved cereal grains and occasional charcoal fragments but little else in the way of plant macrofossils. It did though contain a high density of ostracods, suggesting this feature had contained a relatively high volume of water at some point.
Unstratified finds were limited to single sherds of Iron Age and post-medieval pottery.
See report (S1) for further details.
