Full Description
August 2022-February 2023. Metal-detecting. [1].
Recovered from an area measuring approximately 40m by 10m:
Late Iron Age hoard of 4 gold coins.
These coins are all staters or quarter staters of the Corieltavi and being non-local and close in date (all manufactured between 60 and 20 BC) it is likely they had travelled to this location and entered the ground together - either as a result of accidental loss or a deliberate act of deposition.
Information from PAS import.
This coin hoard was disclaimed as Treasure (Ref: 2023 T288) and returned to the finder.
P. Watkins (HES), 23 May 2024.
February 2024. Metal-detecting. [2].
Found 3-4m apart, a few metres to the north of the most northerly coin found between 2022 and 2023:
2 Late Iron Age gold coins - both Corieltauvian base gold quarter staters. These coin are the first addenum to the hoard recovered in 2022/2023, which puts the total for the hoard at 6 coins.
Information from PAS import.
These coins were also disclaimed as Treasure (Ref: 2024 T488) and returned to the finder.
P. Watkins (HES), 3 May 2025.
