Summary

A small, square enclosure, possibly the outer ditch of an Iron Age square barrow, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs. It is one of several sites visible as cropmarks in this area. A second possible square enclosure (NHER 66762) and a ring ditch (possibly the site of a Bronze Age round barrow, NHER 66759) lie 4m and 24m respectively to its west. It also overlies the line of a Roman road (NHER 66763). The site could instead be interpreted as some other type of funerary site or shrine, of prehistoric or Roman date.

A small, square enclosure, possibly the outer ditch of an Iron Age square barrow, is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs (S1-S3).
The site is part of a clearly complex area of archaeology, where the relationships between different features are unclear. If not a square barrow, the site could instead be interpreted as some other type of funerary site or shrine, of prehistoric or Roman date, or a non-funerary enclosure of almost any period.
See the project report (S4) for a more detailed discussion of these sites, and the relationship of the road with the Roman town and industrial suburb of Brampton (NHER 1006 and NHER 1124) approximately 500m to the east.
