Summary

A seemingly intact World War Two spigot mortar pedestal was noted at this location in 2023. An adjoining concrete block potentially represents another surviving element of this mortar emplacement. This is one of three extant spigot mortar pedestals that lie in the vicinity of Nuns' Bridges Road (the others being NHERs 67111 and 67112).

Map

23 January 2023. Casual Observation.
Noted by member of the public at approximately TL 87434 82603 [1]:
Previously unrecorded World War Two spigot mortar pedestal ('thimble'). The concrete pedestal is hexagonal with an intact stainless steel pin. An adjoining concrete block was probably part of the mortar emplacement (this is clearly of some age as a large tree has grown over it). A number of upright iron posts are also potentially contemporary with the mortar emplacement.
See photographs (S1) and (S2 (the latter taken by a second member of the public in August 2024).
