Map

June 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
A probable medieval to post medieval field boundary is visible as a low earthwork on visualised lidar data (S1). The curved bank mirrors parallel extant field boundaries to its west, suggesting that they may all have originated as the boundaries of medieval strip fields. The mapped boundary is also overlain by a later field boundary, depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition map (and therefore not mapped by the project; S2), again suggesting it is a relatively early feature. As the lidar survey was flown quite recently (2017) it is likely that the earthwork still survives.
