Summary

Historic maps depict a large building or group of buildings and walled garden at this location. Cartographic evidence indicates that both the buildings and gardens were constructed sometime between 1838 and 1886. Parts of the buildings had been demolished by 1950 and all structures had been completely demolished and the area returned to arable sometime before 1988. The structures were most likely outbuildings to the Rectory (NHER 18221) located to the southeast which was constructed earlier but was demolished in 1930. Further research is required to confirm this.

Map

July 2023. Documentary Research.
Historic maps depict a large building or group of buildings and walled garden at this location. The buildings appear to consist of a central north-south structure situated between two east-west oriented structures.
The complex is not depicted on the 1838 Titchwell Tithe map (S1) but does appear on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map published in 1886 (S2), indicating that both garden and buildings were constucted sometime between this period. The buildings appear in the same configuration on the 1904 revision (S3) but by 1950 (S4) the buildings had been greatly reduced, with only the central north-south oriented section remaining. Both barns and walled garden had been completely removed and the area returned to arable by 1988 (S5).
It appears most likely that the structures were outbuildings to the Rectory (NHER 18221) located to the southeast which was consructed earlier but was demolished in 1930. Further documentary research should be able to confirm this.
