Full Description
August 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
This work revealed evidence for significant recent truncation, with modern overburden overlying natural geological deposits in one of the three trenches excavated and only a thin subsoil surviving in the other two. It is likely that this disturbance occurred during the construction of the nearby buildings.
A single pit was the only surviving feature identified. Although this produced no finds its cut was visible within the subsoil layer, suggesting it was unlikely to be of great antiquity.
No unstratified finds were recovered.
See report (S1) for further details.
