Summary

Trial trenching at this location in 2023 recorded no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. The site had clearly seen considerable recent disturbance, with evidence that a large area had previously been stripped down to the natural geology. Two large pits of obviously modern date were also exposed.

Map

February 2023. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The two trenches excavated revealed evidence for extensive recent disturbance, with a modern made ground deposit lying directly above the natural geology across much of the site. The only features recorded were two large modern pits.
The one find recovered was a fragment of undiagnostic ceramic building material found within a surviving patch of subsoil.
See report (S1) for further details.
