Full Description
July 2023. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks described below were probably recorded previously as part of NHER 12786, but there is not enough detail in the original record to be certain.
A rectilinear enclosure of unknown date, and several apparently associated linear ditches which are joined to the enclosure and/or share its orientation, are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The orientation of the enclosure is at odds with both the cropmarks of an undated field system which it overlaps (NHER 12786), and the late post medieval pattern of enclosure, as depicted on 19th century maps, such as the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S3). The chronology of the various cropmarks that are visible is uncertain.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 18 July 2023.
