Full Description
July 2021. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
An area of possible post medieval boundaries can be seen as earthworks on 1940s aerial photographs (S1). The features consist of multiple, regular, earthwork ditches which may have related to post medieval field boundaries or drainage. It is possible that the features may be earlier in date (possibly medieval); However, a post medieval date is more likely. The boundaries are not seen on the Tithe, First or Second Edition Ordnance Survey maps (S4,S5,S6). The majority of the features have been levelled by the 1970s (S2) with some of the feature seen as cropmarks on later photographs. A small section of bank (centred at TG 1299 2374) can be seen on the visualised lidar data (S3) in the south of the area. This feature may relate to a modern trackway which can be seen on the 1940s aerial photographs.
