Map

September 2021. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Linear ditches, probably representing multi-period boundaries are seen as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The features most likely relate to a series of multi period boundaries. Some of the boundaries may date to the Iron Age or Roman period, while others are of medieval to post medieval date. Finds from the Roman and post medieval periods (NHER 33552 and 35744) have been previously recovered from the area. The linear ditch features are also in close proximity to the alignment of a Roman road (NHER 2796 and 64215) in the north of the site. Post medieval boundaries which are mapped on the First Edition Ordnance Survey (S4) map are also visible on the consulted sources. These features have not been mapped by the project as they are recorded in good detail on the historic maps.
