Full Description
December 2009. Desk-based Assessment.
Archaeological assessment of proposed route of onshore cable for Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm.
See report (S1) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 20 August July 2023.
July 2013–April 2014. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm onshore cable (Field 20).
This survey identified no anomalies of definite archaeological significance. The only response of note was an amorphous discrete positive anomaly at the eastern end of the field that potentially represented an infilled pit or hollow. Although a number of linear anomalies were also recorded these were all probably the result of variations in the underlying geology. A number of dipolar spikes were likely to represent either highly-fired material, or, more likely, ferrous debris on or close to the surface.
The was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with a possible ring-ditch visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs of this location (NHER 27170).
See report (S2) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 20 August July 2023.
November 2013-October 2014. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm onshore cable (Field 20; Trench 162).
A single trench was excavated at this location, which was positioned to target both the discrete anomaly identified by the preceding geophysical survey and the site of the possible ring-ditch visible as a cropmark (NHER 27170). No archaeologically-significant remains were uncovered.
No finds were recovered.
See report (S3) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 20 August July 2023.
2014-2016. Watching Brief.
Maintained during installation of Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm onshore cable (General Watching Brief; Field 20).
No archaeologically-significant features or deposits were recorded at this location.
A possible post-medieval pantile fragment was the only unstratified find recovered.
See assessment report (S4) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 20 August July 2023.
