Summary

Archaeological work at this location prior to and during the installation of the electrical connection for an offshore windfarm revealed no evidence for significant remains. An initial geophysical survey had entirely negative results and a single trial trench excavated within an area that couldn’t be surveyed also revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. A watching brief maintained during the actual installation of the electrical cable also recorded nothing of archaeological interest.

Map

December 2009. Desk-based Assessment.
Archaeological assessment of proposed route of onshore cable for Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm.
See report (S1) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 21 August July 2023.

July 2013–April 2014. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm onshore cable (Field 21).
This survey identified no potentially archaeologically-significant responses. Although a number of north-to-south aligned linear anomalies are present at the western end of the site these are modern cultivation trends. Scattered dipolar spikes probably represent ferrous material on or close to the surface (most likely modern debris).
See report (S2) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 21 August July 2023.

November 2013-October 2014. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm onshore cable (Field 21; Trench 163).
A single trench was excavated immediately to the south of Warren Plantation, within an area that had been too overgrown to be examined during the preceding geophysical survey.
No archaeologically-significant features or deposits were identified and no finds recovered.
See report (S3) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 21 August July 2023.

2014-2016. Watching Brief.
Maintained during installation of Dudgeon Offshore Windfarm onshore cable (General Watching Brief; Field 21).
No archaeologically-significant features or deposits were recorded at this location and no finds recovered.
See assessment report (S4) for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 21 August July 2023.
