Map

July 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Earthworks (since levelled) of possible medieval to post medieval settlement features and field boundaries are seen on aerial photographs (S1). The earthwork banks and ditches may relate to a series of possible medieval to post medieval boundary banks and ditches, field boundaries and possible drainage ditches. It is possible that some of the features may have also been associated with medieval to post medieval settlement. At TF 8964 0932 a mound with a possible pit or hollow in the centre is visible. The function of this feature is uncertain. The possible field boundaries and settlement features are also in close relation to an area of possible medieval to post medieval ridge and furrow (NHER 66984). The features can be seen as earthworks in the 1940s (S1) and are presumed to have been levelled by the 1970s (S2) with some of the ditched seen as Soilmark on (S2). The features are not recorded on the readily available historic maps such as the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S3).
