Summary

A World War One memorial with World War Two additions commemorating the servicemen of Hethersett. The memorial is in the form of a Cross of Sacrifice made of Portland stone. It was constructed in 1920.

Location: St Remigius’ churchyard, Norwich Road, Hethersett
Type: Cross of Sacrifice
Description: The memorial is in the form of a Cross of Sacrifice made of Portland stone. The cross is octagonal and sits on an octagonal plinth. There is a decorative carving of a reversed sword on the front face of the cross. The plinth is on top of a three-step base; the lowest step projects out slightly. The inscriptions are placed on the plinth faces.
Proposed: December 1918 with a War Memorial Committee formed in 1919.

Constructed/Sculpted By: F. G. Want and Sons
Cost: £162 collected through subscription
Unveiled: 11 July 1920 by Canon Pelham and the Rector, Reverend F. Jarvis.

2011. Addition.
The name of a fallen soldier from the Cyprus Emergency was added to the memorial in 2011. See Historic England Advice Report (S2) for further details.
