Summary

A World War One memorial with World War Two and Northern Ireland conflict additions, commemorating the servicemen of the parish of Walpole St Peter. It is in the form of a Calvary cross made of sandstone, erected around 1920.

Location: Churchyard of the Church of St Peter, Church Road, Walpole St Peter
Type: Cross (Calvary)
Description: The memorial is in the form of a gabled Calvary cross made of sandstone. The cross sits on a tapering octagonal shaft on top of a plinth. The plinth sits on a three-stepped base. There is a standing figure either side of Christ at the base of the cross head, with the back and side faces also populated by figures including St Michael and St George. The plinth holds the original inscription, with names listed on the remaining faces. The top step of the base has a repeating inscription “THINK/AND/THANK”. The second step holds the dates of the Second World War with names on two other faces. An additional name from Northern Ireland is listed on a second step face.
