Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions commemorating the servicemen of Costessey. The memorial is in the form of a Latin cross made of stone. It was erected around 1920 and listed Grade II in February 2017.

Location: St Edmund’s Churchyard, The Street, Costessey
Type: Latin Cross
Description: The memorial is in the form of a Latin cross made of stone. The arms of the cross are floriated with fleuron and ballflower designs at the end of each arm; the arm pointing downwards connects to the octagonal shaft and is undecorated. The top and bottom of the cross shaft holds foliate carvings in two bands with “mock-trefoil arch motifs” (S2) in between. The cross stands atop a two-tier octagonal plinth on top of a three-step octagonal base. The inscription is placed on the plinth faces.
