Pre-1978. Construction.
The memorial railings have changed several times prior to 1978. Originally, the memorial was surrounded by railings. The railings were removed at one point and new kerbs added. Railings were added once again to the memorial and grassed area around the monument was paved over. There is currently a paved and kerbed area around the monument and the memorial itself is surrounded by railings.
