Summary

A World War One memorial with World War Two additions commemorating the servicemen of the parish of Elsing. The memorial is in the form of a wheel-head cross made of York stone. It was unveiled on 11 August 1921.

Location: St Mary’s Churchyard, Church Street, Elsing
Type: Wheel-head cross
Description: The memorial is in the form of a wheel-head cross made of York stone. The cross head and shaft hold decorative carvings of a cross with Celtic motifs. ‘IHS’ is carved in the centre of the cross head. The cross has a small shaft that is placed on a tapering plinth. The plinth sits atop a two-step base. The main inscription is placed on the north face of the plinth continuing onto the top step of the base. The west face of the plinth holds additional WW2 names.
