Map

September 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Probable medieval to post medieval field boundaries are seen as earthworks and later as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The features consist of ditches and sections of bank which most likely relate to medieval to post medieval field boundaries. Earthwork post medieval to modern drainage ditches (not mapped) are also visible across the area. It is therefore possible that some of the mapped features could instead relate to post medieval to modern drainage. The probable field boundaries are visible as earthworks on S1. The features appear to be levelled overtime (S2) with some of the levelled earthworks visible as cropmarks on more recent (2006) aerial photographs (S3). The cropmarks of post medieval field boundaries mapped on the readily available historic maps (such as S4 and S5) are also visible as cropmarks on the aerial photographs (S3). As these features are recorded in good detail on the historic maps, they have not been mapped as part of this project.
