Summary

Sections of earthwork bank, probably relating to field boundaries of a post medieval date, are visible as low earthworks on visualised lidar data. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is likely that the features still survive.

Map

September 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Sections of earthwork bank, probably relating to field boundaries of a post medieval date, are visible as low earthworks on visualised lidar data (S1). They are not depicted on any readily accessible historical maps (such as the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S2)), but fit the same general pattern of enclosure, suggesting that although an earlier origin cannot be ruled out, they are generally of post-medieval date. Sections of bank and ditch on an approximate east-west alignment are seen in the east of the area (centred at TF 9251 0931) on S1. It is uncertain as to whether these features relate to former field boundaries or modern drainage. As the origin of these feature is uncertain, they have been mapped by extent. As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) it is likely that the earthworks still survive.
