Map

September 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Probable medieval to post medieval field boundaries are seen as earthworks on aerial photographs (S1). The features consist of a series of banks and ditches which most likely relate to field boundaries of a possible medieval to post medieval date. It is also possible that the sections of ditch in the south of the area (centred at approximately TF 9073 1092) may relate to a post medieval drainage ditch rather than a field boundary. The features can be seen as earthworks on the 1946 aerial photographs (S1) and are not recorded on the readily available historic maps (S3-S4). The bank features appear to have been levelled with the section of ditch seen as earthworks on the recent (2017) visualised lidar data (S2). A possible post medieval to modern trackway or section of post medieval field boundary (NHER 67624), on a different alignment to those recorded as part of this record, has been mapped approximately 50m to the northwest.
