Map

December 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Cropmarks of probable medieval to post medieval field boundaries and a trackway are seen on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The date of the features is unknown. However, a medieval to post medieval date for the features is suitable. It is possible that the features may relate to more than one phase. The site of Great Fransham Manor house (NHER 24783) has been previously recorded from finds and documentary evidence (see S4) at this location. It is possible that some of the mapped features could relate to the site of the medieval manor. A large amount of multi-period finds (NHER 24783 and 24784), including later prehistoric, Roman, medieval and post medieval finds, have also been previously recovered from across the area. The features are not recorded on the readily accessible historic maps (such as S3). Cropmarks relating to post medieval field boundaries which are recorded on the readily accessible historic maps are also visible on the aerial photographs (S1-S2). These features have not been mapped as they are recorded in good detail on the readily accessible historic maps (such as S3).
