NHER 67780 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Earthworks of a section of possible Roman road

A possible section of Roman road is visible as an earthwork on recent (2017) visualised lidar data and as soilmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The sections of bank and ditch follow a similar alignment to the Roman road recorded more broadly as NHER 3697. The features are also on a similar alignment to further sections of possible earthwork Roman road recorded to the north east (NHER 31197) and south west (NHER 4958). Although the mapped features may relate to a section of Roman road, it is also possible that the features could relate to a former post medieval field boundary not recorded on the readily accessible historic maps (such as S3). The features can be seen as soilmarks on aerial photographs (S1) and as earthworks on recent (2017) visualised lidar data (S2). As the lidar survey was flown in 2017, it is likely that the features still survive as very low earthworks. Soilmarks relating to modern agricultural processes (not mapped) are also visible across the area on the aerial photographs (S1).
