Full Description
September 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The earthworks (since levelled) of a possible medieval to post medieval trackway or road can be seen on aerial photographs (S1). The feature consists of an earthwork bank with sections of flanking ditch. It is possible that this feature may relate to a former road or trackway. The date of the feature is unknown. It is possible that the feature may date to the medieval to post medieval period. However, an earlier date for the feature cannot be ruled out. The feature can be seen as an earthwork on the 1940s aerial photographs (S1) and has been levelled on the 1971 aerial photographs (S2). The ditches can subsequently be seen as soilmarks and as cropmarks on S2 and S3.
J. Powell (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 29 September 2023.
