Full Description
January 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project (volunteer strand).
Features visible as low earthworks on visualised lidar data (S1) and faint cropmarks on aerial photographs (S2) principally comprise post medieval field boundaries, mainly depicted on readily available 19th century maps (such as the Enclosure map, S3). A few features, however, are not depicted, and some, including a partial ring ditch (at TF 9865 1564), may be of earlier origin. The archaeological significance of these features, however, is uncertain, given their faintness and (in the case of the earthworks) poor definition. The lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017) and it is probable that any earthwork elements still survive.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 12 January 2024.
