Summary

The earthworks (since levelled) of a possible post medieval boundary bank are visible on aerial photographs. It is possible that boundary bank may have related to a former field boundary, property boundary or may have been associated with the site of Site of St Mary's Church (NHER 4200) recorded to the north east.

Map

January 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The earthworks (since levelled) of a possible post medieval boundary bank are visible on aerial photographs (S1). It is possible that boundary bank may have related to a former field boundary, property boundary or may have been associated with the site of Site of St Mary's Church (NHER 4200) recorded approximately 40m to the northeast. It is also possible that bank could have related to a section of trackway recorded on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6" map (S4). The boundary bank most likely dates to the post medieval period. Although an earlier, medieval date cannot be ruled out. The earthworks can be seen clearly on the 1940s aerial photographs (S1). The earthworks are not seen on later aerial photographs (such as S2) or on the relatively recent (2017) visualised lidar data. It is presumed that the earthworks have been levelled. However, it is possible that the feature may survive as a very low earthwork.
