Map

January 2024. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The earthworks of possible medieval field boundaries are seen on aerial photographs and relatively recent visualised lidar data (S1-S5). It is also possible that the features may have related to medieval settlement, an enclosure or drainage ditches. The features are most likely medieval in date. However, a post medieval date for the features cannot be ruled out. The features can be seen as earthworks on the 1940s aerial photographs (S1-S2). Although the features can be seen as cropmarks on later aerial photographs (such as S3 and S5), the ditch features are visible as very low earthworks on the visualised lidar data (S4). As the survey was flown relatively recently (2017), it is likely that features still survive as low earthworks. It is the presumed that the bank features have been levelled as these features are not visible on the relatively recent lidar visualisations or recent aerial photographs.
